I've been reading around the subject of vocation and calling. I'm not sure but it's possible that much of what I need to know may be here. I could be wrong, but Dave Walker does seem quite good at getting to the crux of an issue.

Who is Jesus Anyway? Is he who we think he is?

  Who is Jesus anyway? It’s something I often reflect on, because sometimes the Jesus I see in the Gospels seems very different from the Jesus we see represented in Christianity. It’s something I touched on in a recent sermon and seemed like an unfinished train of thought. After all, we see Christianity being used a means to push through policies in America, which, to me, make no sense. Making me wonder, have they even considered what Jesus would make of moves to ban books, repeal abortion rights or marginalise minorities. Here, the church and state in the United Kingdom are really just united in name only, with the risk of the church being seen to endorse Government policy for fear of losing their status of the Church OF England. It then often feels like the Anglican Communion is only being preserved by church leaders compromising their beliefs to avoid an argument, and I wonder what Jesus would make of these political moves in our church. Windermere marathon – Tearfund

First published in St Georges Church magazine in June 2010. On the 16th May I ran my first marathon, around Windermere in the Lake District. Why? Initially, it was just to prove to myself that I could do a marathon, it then needed to be 2010, to prove I’m not over the hill (as it were). I then realised that this wasn’t just about me, it needed the support of my family, but also, something told me that some good could come out of it as well. Then, at about the same time as I entered the race, St Georges announced we would be supporting Tearfund this year and that was the extra incentive I needed. Training actually brought home just how difficult the challenge was going to be. As I increased my distances, probably too quickly, I struggled to finish and actually had to be rescued twice by Louise when I attempted 20 miles on two attempts (first after 16 miles, then after 19 miles).
